Barack Obama's transition team is asking potential appointees detailed questions about gun ownership (politico.com). This is just one aspect of the very lengthy questioner for potential applicants. The National Rifle Association has criticized the questions and one Republican Senator is considering legislation that would make sure no one could be denied employment in the Obama administration based on gun ownership (poltico.com). Obama's transition team would not comment as to why they included the question but one aid did say “The intent of the gun question is to determine legal permitting” (politico.com). The gun question asks “Do you or any members of your immediate family own a gun? If so, provide complete ownership and registration information. Has the registration ever lapsed? Please also describe how and by whom it is used and whether it has been the cause of any personal injuries or property damage” (politico.com). In general gun advocates want Obama to know they are unhappy with this type of question.
